Ireland
The Irish government has set a goal of generating 80% of electricity through renewables by 2030, including 5 GW from offshore wind.
Energising Ireland
with offshore wind
Corio Generation is developing the 450 MW Sceirde Rocks Windfarm, approximately 5km off the coast of Connemara, County Galway, in western Ireland.
In May 2023, the Irish government announced the project had been successful in the country’s historic first offshore wind auction.
Once completed, the Sceirde Rocks Windfarm will be one of the largest infrastructure developments undertaken in Connemara. It is expected to provide enough clean electricity to meet the needs of around 350,000 Irish homes and help to avoid around 550,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
The project is being developed by Corio Generation through the Irish and Gaeltacht based company Fuinneamh Sceirde Teoranta (FST). FST is a joint venture owned by Corio and global infrastructure investor Ontario Teacher’s Pension Plan.
